Overwhelmed

Image
** Warning, this is going to be a long post, so shut off the TV, get out your reading glasses and a cup of tea. I think I've been having tiny little panic attacks.  That might be catastrophising things, but sometimes it's just hard to breathe for a few minutes.  Stress is high these days.  I'm pretty sure it's the kind of stress I am putting on myself, which I know because I think un-normal things like "Sleep is so annoying, I don't know why I have to waste time sleeping."  and "I should write a book".  I mean, comeon. How's the diet going you ask?  Don't even get me started, we had donuts for breakfast. I've actually realized that I need to be appreciated, and until the babies came, I was regularly appreciated at work or at school because I am an overachiever and would go above and beyond to gain kudos.  Now I am appreciated in a completely different way by Evan, the babies and both of our families.  It feels different though. ...

6 month update

Shhh, the babies are down for a quick nap.  Today, I'm not feeling well - I have a cold and I am exhausted.  We dropped Evan off at work this morning and instead of going out for our usual walk, I brought the babies home so I could rest.  Rest.  Well, you know what I mean.  Luckily it is Friday, and Evan said he would take the babies to the farmer's market tomorrow and let me sleep... I can't wait!  The other light at the end of the tunnel, is that February is filled with visitors of the Grandparent type, so Evan and I can let the Grandparents watch the kiddos while we sleep or have a date night.  Yeay!  Speaking of date nights, our friends Cate and Nate and their baby Franky gave us tickets to the George Strait concert at the end of the month!  We are SUPER excited to go see him, but this means that we have to leave Wyatt and Olivia alone with a sitter for a few hours.  Incredibly nerve wracking!  We are using Cate and Nate's nanny...

Three and a half Months in to This Parenting Thing

Image
My last post was when the babies were 9 days old.  I'm not sure when I found time to write...pretty impressive.  Right now I am typing with one hand, feeding Wyatt with the other (Yes I have perfected the one handed feed) and Olivia is asleep on the couch.  Evan just left for work and I was feeling like I needed some time to express feelings about the past few months. These three months have flown by.  I don't think so in the minute when the babies are crying at the same time and I'm counting the seconds until Evan gets home from work, but looking back, it's a blur.  A big happy, stressful, exciting blur. We have had a lot of visitors intermittently which has been incredibly helpful.  Visitors are wonderful but every time someone says "we're here to see the babies and help with the babies, don't plan anything or do anything different."  I still put pressure on myself to do my best to make sure our visitors have a good time in San Diego and get out ...

The Long Awaited Arrival of The World's Cutest Babies!

Image
I don't even know where to begin writing this post.  The babies are 9 days old now, and they are sooooo wonderful!  Their little personalities are already emerging, Evan and I are having the best time getting to know them.  Yes we are struggling with sleep deprivation, but Evan and I make a great team, we split the work as much as possible.  I am learning how to get ahead while the babies sleep so that I am not frantic when they wake up at the same time and both need to be fed, changed, burped and held. Wyatt is having a hard time learning to breastfeed.  He latches on for a minute or two, but seems to not like having to do all that "sucking" work.  He prefers the bottle where the liquid basically drips into his mouth unless he pulls it out faster.  We practice with the breast, then I pump so he gets my milk and we supplement with formula. Olivia has no problem breastfeeding, she would be latched to my boob all day if she could.  Timing seem...
