Baby Blog Beginnings
It was suggested by my mom that Evan and I begin a blog. We agree that it is a great way to let our families and friends in on our new adventure! If my past is any predictor of the future, you'll want to keep up with the blog because there are sure to be some good laughs to come.
With this being our first experience with pregnancy, we have no idea what to expect. Much of the first trimester I was quite sick, not keeping food down and sleeping as if I'd never slept before. Evan was a champ, helping me through these rough couple of months. I also got through depending on mint Mentos candies, and peppermint tea. Finally now in week 11, I am feeling much better. I keep food and liquids down and have a bit more energy. I'm grateful for this because I started back to my final semester of grad school last week.
Evan and I have been to a few doctors appointments, and so far everything is looking good! Last week we got to hear the babies heartbeats which was a completely surreal experience. My chosen doctor has decided to fully transfer me to a perinatal hemotologist because I have a clotting disorder that predisposes me to blood clots. Pregnancy also raises the risk of blood clots, so they want me monitored closely by specialists. My first doctors appointment with them is Feb 11th. I am bummed that I will no longer be with the doctor that I chose, but keeping the babies and I safe is obviously most important.
This weekend Evan moved in with me. I love having him around! He encourages me to take walks with him, I usually complain that I'm tired, then he rolls his eyes and drags me out with him. He's always rubbing my back and never complains when I ask him to get me ice cream at 10pm :) We're nice and cozy in our studio, and we've already settled in pretty well. Yes, I said "studio" and yes the twins will join us here at least for a while, until we move. Don't worry though, Evan is pretty sure we can re-purpose one of our closets as a miniature bedroom... kidding, if we don't get a bedroom, neither do the kids. They will be in bassinets right by our side.
Both Evan and I are lucky to have families who are supportive and excited for us! All of our friends also agree that this is great news. I can't wait to have you all follow our blog. Be patient though, Evan isn't crazy about writing for the blog and I am going to be busy with school and internship, but I promise to get some good stories and updates to you on a regular basis.
Here's a cheat sheet of common questions people are asking us when they find out we're pregnant:
Twins? Who has twins in the family?: We both have distant twins somewhere in our family lines, but ours are fraternal (in two separate sacs) so it's not a genetic thing, It's just how my body took advantage of the situation!
What do you want, boys or girls?: I'll take anything, I just pray they are healthy (one boy and one girl would be nice). Evan dreams of boys - he's already decided that we should put them in different years at school so that they can both be star quarterbacks...
When are you due?: My due date has changed 3 times. The most current is August 16th. Twins often come early, so who knows, I'm pretty sure I'll give birth somewhere between July and September :)
What teams are they going to root for?: I regretfully respond that they will be Cowboys fans, but we agree that they will also be Giants baseball fans.
What are you craving?: First it was waffles, next was celery and peanut butter. Then I craved cold cut sandwiches, however I heard I'm not supposed to eat lunch meat, so I decided to eat chicken breast sandwiches or B.L.T's. The B.L.T's led into an intense need for bacon. No cravings right now. I do however get ravenously hungry, and as soon as hunger hits it is severe, as in, I would steal food from the hands of someone passing me by on the street.
That's about all of my updates for now. I'm going to start taking pictures to track my growing belly, but up to now, nothing's really happening.
Love from Bree and Evan :)
